Why Does This Exist?

"The Little Free Library works great for children's books — but I love meeting the person who gets my book. And by trading for a coffee at my favorite shop, I know I'm getting it into the hands of a reader - not a reseller!"

It started with books. There are too many good books sitting on shelves going unread. And there are too many people scrolling their phones in coffee shops, alone.

For a Cup of Coffee is an excuse to do both things at once: get something off your shelf into someone else's hands, and have a real conversation with a neighbor you'd never otherwise meet.

Then the idea grew. Why only books? Artists trade prints. Crafters trade handmade cards and knitted things. Gardeners trade seeds, or small potted plants. If it fits in a tote bag and it's worth a cup of coffee, it belongs here.

For items other than books, you may add a few dollars above the simple trade of coffee. We suggest keeping that amount in the spirit of a fair trade.

The coffee shop piece is intentional. You're meeting a stranger - do it somewhere public, familiar, and welcoming. Your favorite café is the perfect backdrop for a tiny, kind transaction between two people in the same neighborhood who just needed a reason to say hello.

No shipping. No fees, unless a user adds one. No awkward porch pickup. Just you, your neighbor, and a quick trade For a Cup of Coffee.

The Rules Are Simple
